Thierry Bernardon was a Spacemen 3 fan who had travelled from France with the specific intention of playing with the band. It didn’t work out long term, but he did play this gig and was involved in the Playing With Fire recording sessions. The live recording of this gig is a bit muddy, but the drums sound perfectly acceptable. Thierry was the main force behind the short-lived band Reverbaration, whose album Blue Stereo Music is well worth checking out.
I was there. I had a couple of Spaceman 3 singles, but went in the main to see My Bloody Valentine. MBV were incredible but Spaceman 3 matched them. I was blown away. I only have two detailed memories; firstly, they were so loud. And sat cross-legged on the stage floor facing each other, for at least one song. It remains one of my favourite gigs. I only saw them once more, at the Reading Festival a year or so later.
